Citizens Fire CompanyFire services in the City of Charles Town are provided by two, independent volunteer fire departments. The first of these is Citizens Fire Company, which serves the citizens of Charles Town and outlying communities of Jefferson County. The members of the company continue to uphold its volunteer tradition and serve with professionalism and pride.  The company is made up of administrative and firefighting members, both male and female, and those young and old. The company currently has approximately 50 active members and average approximately 1,300 calls for service a year. Independent Fire CompanyThe second fire company providing services to Charles Town is Independent Fire Company, which is located in Ranson. All fire, rescue, and EMS incidents are handled by volunteer members. Currently, the company protects a population of approximately 35,000 people. The members of Independent Fire Company take great pride in its station and apparatus and will continue to serve the citizens for many years to come.
